Take a Picture, It Lasts Longer

Today I celebrated my annual tradition of thoroughly cleaning Tyler's room while he is at camp. I decided that I had to take a picture of it because 5 minutes after he arrives, all my hard work will be lost. It is amazing how much filth a 12 year-old boy can accumulate! Half eaten Easter candy, 3762 Lego pieces (no, I didn't really count them), lots of socks (both dirty and clean, but the clean ones were now dirty because they were covered in cat hair), enormous amounts of cat hair (because Tyler's room is Jackson's favorite hang out), dirty dishes, CDs with no cases, cases with no CDs and of course none of them go together, broken toys, candy wrappers, 3 containers of deoderant (plus he has one at camp with him. I'm definitely done buying it for awhile), one entire set of clean sheets shoved behind his bed, not to mention the dirty ones on his bed all crumpled up in a wad. Well...maybe tomorrow night after you can no longer see the floor I scubbed the gum off of, I'll be so happy that he is home that it won't matter.

Yah, I Know It's Been Awhile

I have decided that this blog thing is going to be a fun thing for me and not something looming over my head on my to-do list. I will only be writing when I feel like writing. If I feel like it is something I have to do on a timetable, I won't have fun with it. So...with that said I will start my new blog entry.

I love summer! Not just because I don't have to work (OK, that is a big factor). Schedules are more free, there is more outdoor play with my kids, picnics, boating, the list goes on and on. One thing I love are the small discoveries my kids can make in the summer. The other day we found a turtle walking down our street (knowing our neighborhood he was probably trying to score some of what ever they are selling around here). We took hime home, kept him in the garage in an old aqarium. We went to the library to check out books on turtles and they spent a good part of the day researching their turtle, whose name is Speedy, by the way. We kept hime for a few days with intentions of entering him in the turtle races around July 4, but we coundn't get the poor thing to eat so we let him go at Aunt Jill's pond. I just love the types of experiences and learning that summer can bring!

Fishing...Not For Me

I am not and don't ever claim to be a fisherman (fisherwoman?). I hate everything about it-the smell, the icky fish, the nasty river, the smell, not to mention the mosquitoes that inevitably accompany such an activity. And in all honesty, I am dreadfully afraid of fish. Even aquarium fish. I don't know what it is. They just freak me out! This past weekend we were camping with my in-laws church group and the main activity was fishing. My husband and son were thirilled and had a great time they caught many good sized fish. Eric caught the big one that they are holding together. The stringer is a joint effort between Grandpa Ediger, Uncle Kevin and Uncle Rob. The one that Tyler is kissing (eewww!) was the biggest that he caught on his own. He decided that he was going to clean it himself, even though it was a big fish and he had never done it by himself before. Eric, like the good dad he is, decided that he was not going to "die on that hill" and let him do it. From that big fish he salvaged about a cup of meat. Eric winced but said nothing (good daddy!) The guys had a great time, and that's what's important, right?

Here I Am!

This is my grand openning party on the web (sorry, no grand prize drawings, clowns with balloon animals, or free snacks). I have never had a blog or had a desire to have a blog. However, two very good friends have blogs that have been most inspiring. So.. for better or for worse...I now have a blog.

I am not real sure how long this will last since I am the type of person who starts a lot of things but rarely finishes anything! We'll see...
